Friday, October 30, 2026 — NIFTY Tests 23,149 Futures High, Sells Off Hard at 13:30, and Closes at 23,053
Thursday did 348 points of heavy lifting, clearing every short from Wednesday's buildup. Friday tried to add to it. The open came in at 22,964.50 — below today's TC, which already set the tone. An early dip to 22,905.10 tested the session's floor. Then a patient grind to the high: 23,118.10 on the spot, 23,149.6 on the November futures. And then the 13:30 candle: 4,260 contracts of volume, -2,031 delta, 73.3% sell side. That was the day. The afternoon was a two-hour bleed from the Poor High back to a close at 23,053.10 (+116.35, +0.51%). Range: 213 points. The week's story — Short Buildup Monday–Wednesday, Short Covering sweep Thursday, supply at the Poor High Friday — is now complete.
Order Flow Analysis
The open and the early selling
Thursday's close (futures: 23,047.4, spot: ~22,937) generated today's CPR. A 108-point wide CPR — BC 22,885.2, PP 22,939.2, TC 22,993.3 — is a statistical signal for a balanced, rotational session. The tape obliged.
The session opened at 22,964.50 (spot), immediately below TC (22,993). The first 30 minutes were not kind: footprint deltas at the 10:15 and 10:30 bars printed -259 and -529 respectively — the session's most aggressive early selling of the week. Price dipped to the session low of 22,905.10, 59 points below TC but 20 points above BC (22,885.2). The CPR's lower boundary held.
The dip was not a capitulation. Volume at the low was not outsized. Sellers pushed, found no follow-through, and stepped aside. From 22,905, the session rebuilt.
The grind to the high
Recovery from the morning low was methodical. Deltas through the 10:45–12:30 window were small and mostly negative, but selling pressure diminished with each bar. Volume thinned to 940–1,290 contracts per 15-minute bar through the 11:00–11:30 stretch — the quiet before the push.
The acceleration came into the early afternoon. Volume climbed to 3.59K at 12:30 and 2.87K at 12:45. Price moved through Thursday's close (23,047), through Thursday's Poor High (23,059.0, the prior wHigh), and into fresh week-high territory on the spot. The November futures touched 23,149.6.
The 13:30 candle
At 13:30 IST, the session's defining candle printed:
- Volume: 4,260 contracts — the session's single largest bar, by a wide margin
- Delta: −2,031 — aggressive selling; every contract tilted to the sell side
- Sell Vol%: 73.3% — buyers were 26.7% of the action
- Buy Vol%: 26.7%
This was not orderly profit-taking. This was deliberate, high-velocity supply at the session high. The futures Poor High at 23,149.6 was set on thin TPOs — price was there, but buyers did not defend it. The 13:30 candle is the visual record of why 23,149 is a Poor High and not a breakout: sellers showed up in size, buyers did not.
After 13:30, the session deflated steadily. Volume dropped to 1.08K–1.83K per bar. Delta stayed negative through the afternoon: -138, 0, -311, -143, -130, -70, -376 across the post-peak bars. Not a panic, but a persistent bleed. Price settled into the 23,040–23,060 range and closed at 23,053.10.

15-minute footprint. Open 22,964 (below TC 22,993). Early selling: −259 and −529 delta bars drive the low to 22,905.10 (above BC 22,885). Recovery grind follows. The 13:30 peak candle: 4,260 volume, −2,031 delta, 73.3% sell side at the futures high of 23,149.6. Two-hour afternoon drift lower; close at 23,053.10. Sustained negative delta from 13:30 through the close.
Key Order Flow Takeaway
- The 13:30 candle at 23,149 defined the session. Volume 4.26K, delta -2.03K, sell side 73.3% — aggressive supply at the exact futures Poor High. No ambiguity about where the sellers were positioned.
- The BC hold at the open (22,905 low vs 22,885 BC) was the floor. Sellers pushed below TC, found no follow-through, and the grind back began from there. The CPR's lower boundary held and the session was never really bearish from that point.
- Wide CPR (108 points) delivered exactly what it advertised. Rotational session, explored both extremes, settled in the middle. The open below TC and the early dip before a recovery is the wide-CPR template.
- Post-13:30 deltas stayed negative for the rest of the session. Not at the scale of the 13:30 hit — but buyers made no attempt to reclaim the highs. The afternoon close at 23,053 held the upper portion of the day's range despite the rejection.
- The week's OI narrative: Monday–Wednesday built a Short Buildup below 22,875. Thursday's Short Covering swept it in 348 points. Friday extended above Thursday's Poor High (23,059) before finding supply at 23,149. Whether Friday's 13:30 sellers are a new Short Buildup layer or profit-takers unwinding Thursday's longs is the setup that opens next week.
Market Profile Analysis
Today's profile is a normal distribution with a Poor High — value built across the mid-session range, with a single-print spike at the top that was not accepted. The structure is orderly in the middle and thin at both extremes.
Poor High at 23,149.6 — the session's futures peak was printed on a handful of TPOs at the top of the day's range. No acceptance above 23,100. The structure mirrors Thursday's Poor High at 23,059.0 exactly: price reaches the upper extreme, supply appears, buyers decline to defend it, and the print stays single. A Poor High is an open invitation — 23,149.6 will be revisited by the market either to be accepted (bullish, builds value above 23,100) or to be rejected again (bearish, double-top structure forming at the upper reference).
Value area concentrated around 23,028–23,081 — the majority of the session's TPOs cluster in this band. This is where Friday's market spent its time, confirming 23,050 as the week's new value area centre. Thursday's close at 23,047 and Friday's close at 23,053 are within six points of each other: two consecutive sessions settling at the same level after a 385-point two-day move signals equilibrium at this price.
23,028 (red reference level) — visible in the profile as the lower boundary of Friday's value area. The level aligns with the pivot reference visible from prior sessions. A Monday open that cannot hold above 23,028 would be the first warning of value migrating downward.
The broader profile context: The multi-day 30-minute profile shows a clear staircase from 22,648 (lows of October 22–23) through 22,769, 22,800, 22,982, and now the 23,000–23,149 band. Thursday's Short Covering and Friday's follow-through have moved value up ~500 points across two sessions. The Poor High at 23,149 and the twin-close at 23,050 suggest value is building in the 22,982–23,149 band — but not committed above it.

30-minute TPO. Normal distribution with Poor High. Session high 23,149.6 (futures); thin TPOs at the top — not accepted. Value area concentrated in the 23,028–23,081 band. Thursday's Trend Day Up profile visible left (POC 22,936). Prior Poor High from Thursday at 23,059 breached intraday today; today's Poor High at 23,149.6 is the new unfinished overhead reference. Multi-session value staircase from 22,648 lows clearly visible in the broader profile.
Structural Levels
Friday adds a new Poor High above Thursday's but does not structurally change the broader map. The key levels entering next week:
- 23,149.6 — Friday's Poor High (futures). Unfinished business above; will be revisited Monday
- 23,118.10 — Friday's High (spot)
- 23,081.2 — Value area upper boundary (Friday); immediate overhead reference
- 23,059.0 — Thursday's Poor High / wHigh. Breached intraday Friday, now the support level that separates continuation from failure
- 23,053.10 — Friday's Close (spot). Thursday's close was 23,047.4 — two consecutive closes within six points is equilibrium
- 23,028 — Value area lower boundary (Friday) / red profile reference
- 22,993.3 — TC (Friday's CPR). Market closed well above it
- 22,982.4 — Multi-session blue reference level (visible spanning the 30m profile)
- 22,939.2 — PP (Friday's CPR) / Thursday's POC zone
- 22,936 — POC (Thursday session). The base of Thursday's Short Covering — the first major support below current value
- 22,885.2 — BC (Friday's CPR). Held on Friday's morning test (session low 22,905 held above BC)
Options and Futures OI
The OI picture for Friday is more nuanced than Thursday's clean Short Covering print. The 13:30 candle — -2,031 delta, 73.3% sell volume at the session high — is the primary data point. Sellers entered aggressively at 23,149 (futures). The two possible interpretations diverge in their implications for next week:
If OI increased on Friday's session (Short Buildup): Fresh shorts were built at 23,149. Next week opens with a setup similar to what Thursday dissolved — but 275 points higher. A Monday open above Thursday's broken Poor High (23,059, now support) would begin squeezing these shorts. A Short Buildup at 23,149 that fails to break the market lower is structurally constructive for bulls.
If OI decreased on Friday's session (Long Unwinding): Longs built Thursday on the Short Covering rally partially exited at the Poor High. The 23,149 print was not defended because Thursday's buyers had already moved on. Next week's direction would depend on fresh conviction, not forced exits. This is the more neutral reading — no new positions committed in either direction, market finding natural sellers at overhead.
The afternoon delta pattern (-311, -143, -130, -70, -376 across the post-peak bars) is consistent with steady supply absorption — not panic liquidation, not a recovery attempt. The market found 23,053 as the settlement, at the session's value centre. Both OI scenarios leave a Poor High overhead and a value area floor at 23,028.
Trading Implications
Two consecutive sessions closing at the same level after a combined 385-point rally tells you the tape is in equilibrium, not trending. The market tried to extend Thursday's move, found a wall at 23,149, and returned to where Thursday ended. The day was not a failure — spot closed +116 — but the Poor High is the footnote that matters more than the gain.
For the bull case: Monday holds Thursday's broken Poor High (23,059) on the opening range. A gap-up above 23,059 and a session that builds value above it — rather than just touching it — would target the Friday Poor High at 23,149. Long Buildup OI on Monday's open is the confirmation signal. Acceptance above 23,149 would be the first week's-high-plus territory NIFTY has seen since the October decline.
For the bear case: Monday opens below Friday's value area lower boundary (23,028). A failure to hold the 22,982.4 multi-day reference would put Thursday's POC (22,936) in focus. The Friday 13:30 sellers at 23,149 would be in profit by that point — reinforcing whatever position they built (Short Buildup) going into Monday. A close below 22,936 would materially change the week-close narrative.
The 23,059 level is next week's hinge. It was Thursday's ceiling (Poor High), was breached intraday Friday, and now sits as the support separating continuation from reversal. A Monday open that gaps above it and holds is the cleanest setup. A Monday open below it that fails to reclaim it flips the structure and puts Thursday's gains in question.

Conclusion
Thursday cleared Wednesday's books. Friday tried to write new ones — reached 23,149 on the November futures — and ran into a 4,260-contract wall. The 13:30 candle: -2,031 delta, 73.3% sell side. That candle wrote Friday. Close at 23,053.10 (spot), within six points of Thursday's close. Two days, one directional impulse, the same destination.
The Poor High at 23,149.6 sits above value as the week's unfinished business. It will be revisited. Whether Monday's tape builds value above 23,059 (Thursday's broken overhead, now the hinge) or fails to hold it is the structural question that opens next week. Thursday's POC at 22,936 and the twin-close at 23,050 define the range that Monday inherits.
