Thursday, October 15, 2026 — Opened on the Low, Wednesday Erased Inside the First Hour, a New High at 23,095

NIFTY futures opened at 22,671.0 on Thursday and never traded lower. The open was the low, the market drove up from the first bar, and by the end of the first hour it had wiped out everything Wednesday took. It ran on to 23,095.0, faded into the afternoon, and closed at 22,984.8, up 336.3 points (+1.48%), 110 points under the high.

Wednesday's recap framed the question as whether the 22,579 floor would hold and the market would close back through 22,714, which would make the break look like a one-hour shakeout. It held. It closed 270 points above 22,714.

Order Flow Analysis

An open drive from the first print

The session's open and low are the same number, 22,671.0, which makes it an Open Drive: the market never revisited its opening price. The 9:15 bar printed 7.48K volume with 69.65% on the buy side and a delta of +1.44K. The next two bars added +985 and +1.8K, and cumulative delta stood at +4.23K after the first three bars with price already above Wednesday's 22,816.6 high.

OI Sense read Short Covering from the open and held that colour across the entire session. Price rising while open interest falls is what a squeeze against a heavy short position looks like, and the participant data going in said exactly that: FIIs were net short about 297K index futures contracts.

The 10:00 bar: heavy volume, no progress

The 10:00 bar was the second heaviest of the day at 7.21K volume, with a delta of only +92 on 50.64% buy volume. A lot traded and nothing moved. That is two-sided churn at the first real resistance, and cumulative delta sat flat near +4.3K to +4.55K through 10:30. It resolved upward: 10:45 added +1.25K on 62% buy volume and the market kept climbing.

Delta confirmed every leg to the high

Cumulative delta stepped up through the late morning (+811 and +781 at 11:15 and 11:30), then again at 12:15 and 12:30 (+841 and +872, the first on 74.69% buy volume) to take cumulative delta past +9.2K as price pushed through 23,000. The 23,095.0 high came in the early afternoon and cumulative delta made a new high of +10.14K at 14:00, so there was no divergence at the top.

The afternoon fade: four sell bars, then VWAP held

From 14:15 to 15:00 every bar was a sell bar: -501, -500, -447 and -563, with sell volume at 60% to 67%. That is -2.01K off cumulative delta in an hour and about 100 points off price. The fade stopped a few points above VWAP (about 22,942), and the last two bars were small buy bars (+203 and +266). The market closed 43 points above VWAP, with cumulative delta at +8.60K.

NIFTY order flow, October 15, 2026

15-minute footprint. An open on the low, +4.23K of delta in the first three bars, a churn bar at 10:00 that resolved up, delta confirming every leg to the 23,095 high, and a four bar sell-off into VWAP in the afternoon. OI Sense reads Short Covering all day.

Key Order Flow Takeaway

  • Open Drive — open and low are both 22,671.0, never revisited.
  • Short Covering from the first bar to the last, matching a net short book going in.
  • Cumulative delta peaked at +10.14K at 14:00, after the price high, so the high was confirmed, not diverged.
  • The only real selling came after 14:00: four bars, -2.01K, stopped a few points above VWAP.
  • Close 43 points above VWAP, with the last two bars net buying.

Market Profile Analysis

Thursday builds a textbook P-shape: a long column of single prints from the 22,671 open up to roughly 22,900 (the A period alone), and a developed body above it, with the value area at 22,893.2 to 23,086.8 and the POC at 22,977.9. The TPO count at the POC is [13/19]. The close, 22,984.8, sat almost on the POC.

The single prints below are the signature of the open drive, and they are untested. The top is tagged a Poor High at 23,095.0: the market kept grinding up, then lost momentum without a sharp rejection, leaving a flat undefended high.

NIFTY market profile, October 15, 2026

1-hour TPO. A P-shape from a long single print column at the open drive up to a developed body above 22,893, with a Poor High at 23,095.

Structural Levels

For Friday, from today's H/L/C (23,095.0 / 22,671.0 / 22,993.2 on the chart): a narrow, 73-point CPR (TC 22,956.5 / BC 22,883.0) with both ends higher than Thursday's, a bullish-leaning posture, and the close sitting above it.

Resistance

  • 23,095 — today's high, the Poor High.
  • 23,110 / 23,168 — Friday's Camarilla H3 and R1.
  • 23,226 — Friday's Camarilla H4.

Support

  • 22,956 / 22,920 — the CPR top and the pivot.
  • 22,877 to 22,893 — a four way stack: Friday's Camarilla L3, the CPR bottom, Tuesday's 22,879 high and the value area low.
  • 22,760 / 22,745 — Friday's Camarilla L4 and S1, and below that the 22,671 open, the base of the single print column.

Options and Futures OI

By the 3:15 pm check, PCR had gone from 0.94 at the open to 1.64, max pain from 22,650 to 22,900, and futures OI was down 3.2% on the day — fewer contracts open and a much higher price, the Short Covering signature the overlay showed all session. Inside the ±15 strike window, puts added 712L while calls lost 163L, with the biggest writes at 22,800 PE (+84L) and 22,900 PE (+83L).

Heading into the day, FIIs held a net short of about 297K index futures contracts, having added back about 7K on Wednesday after covering some on Tuesday, and DIIs were net long near 44%, down from 55% the session before. A squeeze that big against a short position that size is expected, but a day of 3% fewer open futures contracts also means some of the fuel is now spent.

Trading Implications

The continuation case. An Open Drive, Short Covering all day, a P-shaped profile, a narrow CPR with both ends higher and a close above it all point the same way, and FIIs are still net short by about 297K. Holding the 22,877 to 22,893 stack keeps that case clean.

The fade case. The four bar sell streak after 14:00 (-2.01K), a futures OI count 3% lower, PCR already at 1.64 and a Poor High at 23,095 are the places a squeeze this size tends to stall. The single prints from 22,671 to 22,900 are untested, and a drift back into that range would be a normal test.

The level that decides it. A hold of 22,877 to 22,893 on any dip argues for another push at 23,095 and Friday's H3 (23,110). A loss of it puts the single print column in play, with 22,760 and 22,745 the next stops.

Conclusion

Wednesday's floor held and the market closed 270 points above the level that would settle it. Thursday was a one way day from the first print, with a 424-point range, a close 74% of the way up it and a profile with an untested 230-point single print column underneath. Whether Friday keeps building on top of it or comes back to test it is the question the narrow CPR is asking.
