Monday, October 19, 2026 — A Gap Up Sold in the First Bar, and Every Level Friday Named Fell in Order

NIFTY futures gapped up to 23,160.8 on Monday, 42 points above Friday's close and above the narrow CPR, tagged 23,182.0 inside the first bar, and then sold. The 9:15 bar dropped about 210 points. The market recovered part of it, spent two hours rotating under the CPR top, and then lost the floor at 11:30 and slid through every level Friday's recap had named in order. It made its low at 22,866.2 and closed at 22,895.2, down 224.0 points (-0.97%), 29 points above the low.

Friday's recap said holding the 23,031 to 23,095 zone kept the break to the upside the likelier outcome, and that a loss of 23,031 put 22,977 and 22,962 next, then the 22,908 low. All of that happened between 11:30 and 13:15.

Order Flow Analysis

A test above Friday's high, then a drive down

The open tagged 23,182.0, 27 points above Friday's 23,154.6 high, found nothing there and drove the other way without ever revisiting the open: an Open-Test-Drive to the downside. The 9:15 bar printed 7.25K volume (the day's heaviest) with 63.61% on the sell side and a delta of -1.97K. OI Sense read Long Unwinding and held that colour across almost the entire session: the gap-up longs being handed back, and then everyone who bought after them.

The two-hour rotation

The 9:30 bar bounced (+863 on 60.55% buy volume) and a second push at 10:30 reached about 23,150, just under Friday's 23,154.6 high and well under the open's 23,182: a lower high. Cumulative delta never got closer than -654 to flat. From 10:45 price stayed under the CPR top (23,086), rotating around the 23,058 pivot and a falling VWAP, with volume down to 700 to 1,500 per bar. This was a market deciding, not buying.

The 11:30 break, and what followed in sequence

The 11:30 bar printed -940 on 2.22K volume (71.21% sell) and took out the CPR bottom (23,031) and Camarilla L3 (23,045). The 12:00 bar followed with -786 on 2.67K volume (64.74% sell), carrying price through L4 (22,977) and S1 (22,962.5). The 13:15 bar was the heaviest of the slide: -1.12K on 2.6K volume (71.49% sell), taking out Friday's 22,908.0 low. Cumulative delta fell from -1.2K at 11:15 to -5.52K at 13:15.

The low: absorbed, with delta stopping before price did

Price made its low of 22,866.2 in the late afternoon, two points above the Camarilla L5 (22,864), while cumulative delta had already made its low at 13:15 (-5.52K) and was no worse at the late low (-5.49K). Every bar from 14:30 to the close was net positive (+183, +75, +181, +164, +200), and cumulative delta ended at -4.69K. Buyers absorbed the last leg down and the market closed 29 points above the low, still well below VWAP.

15-minute footprint. A 64% sell opening bar after a gap up, a two hour rotation under the CPR top, then three heavy sell bars at 11:30, 12:00 and 13:15 as 23,031, 22,977 and 22,908 fell in order. OI Sense reads Long Unwinding for most of the session.

Key Order Flow Takeaway

  • Open-Test-Drive down: a poke 27 points above Friday's high, then a drive that never revisited the open.
  • OI Sense: Long Unwinding for almost the entire session.
  • Three heavy sell bars did the damage: -940 (11:30), -786 (12:00) and -1.12K (13:15), each on 64% to 71% sell volume.
  • Each of Friday's named levels fell in sequence: 23,031, then 22,977 and 22,962, then 22,908.
  • The low was absorbed two points above L5 (22,864), with delta no lower than at 13:15 and five net-positive bars to the close.

Market Profile Analysis

Monday builds a top-heavy profile on the 30-minute chart: a developed cluster of A to E period prints between roughly 23,030 and 23,180, a thinner run of F to H prints down through 22,950 to 23,000 (the 11:30 to 13:15 slide), and a small base of I to M period prints at 22,870 to 22,920. The value area is 23,107.2 to 22,908 with the POC at 23,032.5, almost exactly the CPR bottom. The close at 22,895.2 sits below the value area, and a Poor Low is tagged at the 22,866 extreme.

A close under value after a gap up through yesterday's high is the profile's version of the order flow story: the higher prices were tried and rejected, and the market now has to find new value lower.

NIFTY market profile, October 19, 2026

30-minute TPO. A top-heavy cluster at 23,030 to 23,180, a thin slide through 22,950 to 23,000, a small base at 22,870 to 22,920, a POC at 23,032.5, a close below the value area and a Poor Low at 22,866.

Structural Levels

For Wednesday (NSE is closed on Tuesday for Dussehra), from today's H/L/C (23,182.0 / 22,866.2 / 22,894.0 on the chart): a narrow, 87-point CPR (TC 22,937.4 / BC 23,024.1) with a bearish lean, both ends lower than Monday's, and the close below it. The weekly CPR from last week (22,761 to 22,996, pivot 22,879) has the close almost on its pivot.

Resistance

  • 22,937 / 22,981 — the CPR top, the pivot and Wednesday's Camarilla H3, all within a few points of each other.
  • 23,024 — the CPR bottom.
  • 23,068 / 23,095 — Wednesday's Camarilla H4 and R1.
  • 23,182 — today's high.

Support

  • 22,866 — today's low and the Poor Low.
  • 22,807 / 22,780 — Wednesday's Camarilla L3 and S1.
  • 22,720 — Wednesday's Camarilla L4, and below that S2 at 22,665.

Options and Futures OI

By the 3:15 pm check, PCR had gone from 1.21 at the open to 0.78 and max pain from 23,100 to 22,900, with futures OI down 0.7% on a falling price, the Long Unwinding signature the overlay showed all session. Inside the ±15 strike window calls added 1,030L while puts shed 89L, with the biggest writes at 22,900 CE (+319L) and 22,950 CE (+269L): call writers pressing the highs, no put support underneath.

Heading into the day, FIIs held a net short of about 273K index futures contracts, down from 280K, having covered another 7K on Friday, and DIIs were net long near 57%. A shrinking short book is less fuel for any rebound.

Trading Implications

The continuation case. Long Unwinding all day, three heavy sell bars on 64% to 71% sell volume, a close under the value area and a bearish-leaning narrow CPR above it, with call writers at 22,900 and 22,950, point lower. A rally into the 22,937 to 22,981 stack is where the next sellers are.

The bounce case. Cumulative delta stopped making lows at 13:15 while price made its low later, the last five bars were net positive, the low held two points above L5 and FIIs are covering. A reclaim of the 22,937 to 22,981 stack would turn Monday into a one-day flush.

The level that decides it. The 22,866 low is the floor to watch. A loss of it puts 22,807 and 22,780 next. A close back above 22,981 argues for a retest of the 23,024 to 23,068 band.

Conclusion

Friday ended with a box and a narrow CPR asking which way it would break. Monday answered it down, with a gap-up that sold in the first bar and a slide that took out every level the recap had named, in order, before buyers showed up at 22,866. With Tuesday's holiday in between, Wednesday opens under a bearish-leaning narrow CPR and the same floor.
