Wednesday, October 28, 2026 — November Contract Opens with 308 Points of Range, a Poor High, a Sep Low Tag, and a Close Right on the POC

Tuesday's expiry close at 22,748.3 handed the November contract a clean starting point. What followed was anything but clean. Wednesday opened at a gap-down 22,690.0 — below Tuesday's VAL — ran 185 points to a wHigh of 22,875.5 in the opening hour, then spent the rest of the session distributing that entire move, briefly tagging below September's structural low at 22,567.0 before recovering to close at 22,775.3. Net change on the day: +25.5 points. Net drama: 308.5 points worth.

The close settled exactly on the session's POC at 22,776.8. Short Buildup was the OI character throughout. The November contract's opening statement was not directional — it was range expansion with extreme Poor extremes on both ends.

Order Flow Analysis

The gap-down open and the early squeeze

The session opened at 22,690.0, a meaningful gap below Tuesday's VAL (22,752.5). In October, a gap below VAL had been a reliable trigger for either a quick recovery or a continued sell-off. Wednesday initially looked like the sell-off thesis — but the first thirty minutes told a different story.

From 22,690, price began to accelerate upward. OI Sense in the opening bars was flashing Short Buildup — meaning fresh shorts were being added into the early weakness, not just covering. Those shorts got squeezed. By mid-morning the session high of 22,875.5 (the wHigh) was printed, the R4 level on the day's pivot stack was tagged, and the footprint showed the classic short-squeeze signature: delta turning hard positive, large ask absorption bars, volume clustering at the top of the move. The entire 185-point move from open to high happened on a thin, urgency-driven tape — not the kind of volume that sustains.

The rejection and the structured sell-off

22,875.5 held for approximately one to two periods. The delta turned. Supply came in at the wHigh and R4 without any hesitation — large ask-side absorption bars, buyers immediately exhausted. Within a handful of bars, price was back below the PIVOT level, then through S3 (22,703.6), and into S4 territory (22,635.0).

The sell-off through the afternoon was not a panic. It was methodical. Each level offered modest support, was absorbed by sellers, and gave way. The VAL of the prior session (22,633.5) was reached and breached. The September structural low at 22,579.0 — which the October series had never properly tested on a closing basis — was approached and then broken intraday: the session low of 22,567.0 was printed below it. Cumulative delta for the session, which had briefly gone positive during the morning squeeze, turned and held net negative through the entirety of the afternoon move.

The recovery and the POC close

From 22,567.0, the tape stabilised. The dip below September's low was shallow and brief — thin volume at the extreme, no continuation selling. A recovery began, working back through S4, reclaiming VAL, and into the S3–PIVOT zone. The final hour saw price settle between 22,750 and 22,790, closing at 22,775.3.

The OI Sense held Short Buildup into the close — the new shorts added during the morning squeeze and through the afternoon distribution were not fully covered by day's end. This is the overhang that goes into Thursday.

NIFTY order flow, October 28, 2026

15-minute footprint. Gap-down open at 22,690.0 below Tuesday's VAL. Morning short-squeeze to wHigh 22,875.5 (R4) on Short Buildup OI — bears added fresh shorts and got squeezed. Delta turned at the high; systematic distribution through PIVOT, S3, S4 and Tuesday's VAL. Session low 22,567.0 briefly tagged below the September structural low (22,579.0) on thin volume. Late recovery to close at 22,775.3, right on the POC. Cumulative delta net negative through the afternoon. Short Buildup OI character held to the close.

Key Order Flow Takeaway

  • Gap-down into Short Buildup was a squeeze setup — the OI Sense read in the first bars showed fresh shorts being added below Tuesday's VAL. That positioning got trapped on the 185-point squeeze to the wHigh. This is the November contract's first significant short-squeeze print.
  • Supply at 22,875.5 was immediate and absolute — no consolidation at R4, no attempt at a second push. The rejection from the wHigh was one of the cleaner distribution signals of the month: large ask absorption, delta flip, and a sustained directional move from the top.
  • Cumulative delta held net negative through the afternoon despite the close being positive — the delta story and the price story diverged. Price recovered; sellers didn't. This is a divergence worth tracking.
  • September structural low (22,579.0) was penetrated but not accepted — 22,567.0 printed intraday on thin volume with no continuation. A wick through a structural level on low volume is different from a sustained break. Whether this counts as a successful test or a warning shot depends on how Thursday trades around 22,579–22,633.
  • Short Buildup OI into the close — the session ended with bears still in position from the squeeze high and the afternoon distribution. A gap-down Thursday open could trigger another squeeze; a continuation below 22,633 would validate the bear case.

Market Profile Analysis

Wednesday's profile is an Outside Day / Range Expansion day — 308.5 points of range against Tuesday's 82.9-point expiry session. The compression of expiry gave way to the November contract's first proper price discovery session.

With 16 out of 41 TPOs printing at the POC (22,776.8), the market spent a disproportionate share of the session at the centre of its range, not at the extremes. The resulting profile shape is a two-tailed distribution: aggressive exploration in both directions, value built in the middle. This is the market defining its range for the new contract rather than trending within it.

Poor High at 22,875.5 — the session high was printed by one or two TPOs, immediately rejected. No acceptance above 22,825. This is a textbook Poor High: price reached there, was turned, and left structural unfinished business above. Poor Highs tend to be revisited.

Poor Low at 22,567.0 — same structure at the bottom. The dip below the September low was a probe, not a settlement. No TPO acceptance below 22,580. A Poor Low with a structural level immediately above it (Sep Low 22,579) is a setup to watch: it either gets properly tested and broken, or it holds and the range is bracketed.

The [16/41] TPO split and the close at 22,775.3 — within half a point of the POC at 22,776.8 — confirms a balanced settlement. The session explored everything and returned to the middle.

NIFTY market profile, October 28, 2026

30-minute TPO. Outside Day / Range Expansion. POC 22,776.8 [16/41 TPOs], VAH 22,824.5, VAL 22,633.5. Gap-down open at 22,690, squeeze to Poor High 22,875.5, distribution to Poor Low 22,567.0 (below Sep Low), recovery to close at 22,775.3 — right on the POC. Two-tailed profile with heavy TPO concentration at centre. Prior sessions visible left; Tuesday's expiry profile (narrow, pinned) gives way to a full range-expansion session in the November series.

Structural Levels

The November contract is now the active front month. The relevant levels from Wednesday's session:

  • 22,996.4 — Wed 21 Oct reference (multi-day overhead); the last significant upper structure from the October series
  • 22,875.5 — wHigh / Poor High (Oct 28). Unfinished business above. First target if bulls regain VAH
  • 22,841.7 — R1 / Prior high reference
  • 22,824.5 — VAH (Oct 28). The pivot for any bullish re-entry attempt Thursday
  • 22,776.8 — POC / Close. The session's balance point; price anchors here overnight
  • 22,775.3 — Wednesday's close. Within a point of POC
  • 22,633.5 — VAL (Oct 28). The critical level on the downside; a close below here reopens the lower range
  • 22,614.4 — Poor Low structure within the session profile
  • 22,579.0 — September structural low. Probed intraday, not accepted
  • 22,567.0 — Session Low / Poor Low (Oct 28). Thin-volume wick below the Sep Low

Options and Futures OI

The dominant character Wednesday was Short Buildup — fresh short positions added throughout the session, both in the morning squeeze and through the afternoon distribution. The short-squeeze at the open cleared some of the residual October rollover positioning, but by mid-session new shorts were being established from the 22,800+ area.

Into the close, those shorts were not covered. The OI Sense held Short Buildup through the final bars, which means Thursday opens with a meaningful overhang of net-short positioning built between 22,800 and 22,875. A gap-up open above 22,800 could trigger another squeeze toward the Poor High; a quiet open in range would give those shorts time to become profitable if 22,633 gives way.

The intraday dip below the September low (22,579) on Short Buildup OI is a structural signal. A repeated test with Short Buildup confirmation would be a materially different scenario from today's thin-volume wick.

Trading Implications

The November contract opened its account with a range-expansion session that left a Poor High and a Poor Low on either side of the range, a net-negative cumulative delta, and a close right on the POC. That is not a trending setup — it is a bracketing session. The bracket is 22,567 to 22,875.

For the bull case: Reclaim VAH (22,824.5), close above 22,841.7 (R1), and target the Poor High at 22,875.5. The squeeze at the open showed there is fuel in the short-covering tank — it just needs a trigger. A gap-up Thursday morning above 22,800 on Short Covering OI would be the framework-read setup.

For the bear case: A hold below VAL (22,633.5) on a closing basis reopens 22,567 and then properly tests the September structural low cluster (22,518–22,579). The Short Buildup OI holding into the close and a net-negative delta through the afternoon give the bears the better overnight positioning. A confirmed close below 22,579 (September low) would be a materially bearish structure — one that would require a fresh analysis of the multi-month range.

The POC at 22,776.8 is the day's resolution level. Price above it into tomorrow's open means buyers absorbed the session; price below it means Wednesday's recovery was mechanical and the distribution continues.

Conclusion

The November contract's first session was a statement. 308 points of range — nearly four times Tuesday's expiry session — two Poor extremes, a breach of the September structural low, and a settlement right at the POC. Short Buildup OI held through the close, cumulative delta was net negative, but price closed positive on the day. Those contradictions are Wednesday's gift to Thursday: a clear set of levels to resolve against, a defined bracket to break out of, and a short-heavy overnight position that either gets squeezed or validated depending on how the morning opens.
